January 27 SATURDAYI am off this morning to work. But I just had to pop in and say a quick hello. We are starting to get knee deep into tax season! Yipee! I found out that this year Tax Day is Tuesday April 17. I guess there is a federal holiday on Monday April 16. So my next day off from work will be Wednesday April 18-the day before my daughter Katy's 18th birthday. And then shortly there after we will be having a graduation party for her. It's so hard to believe that her graduation is just right around the corner! (This is my first time can you tell?) I am pretty nervous and excited about it all at the same time.
Oh-also here is a quick link to a hat I am knitting right now and I am pretty excited about it. My hat will be really fuzzy, silver and white. I am doing the hat with the flower on it.
It's called the New York hat. I liked it because it's different. I don't know what my deal is with wanting to knit hats. It's crazy! Anyway once I get it done I will be posting the picture of it on my knitting blog that I have almost abandoned again.
Well-I need to go-I have to go to work. I hope that this blog finds all of you doing well here in blogland. Also-have a great weekend! January 22 BOOK REVIEW-TRAVELING LIGHT BY MAX LUCADOOkay-I have to talk about this. I have been reading and rereading this book called "Traveling Light" by Max Lucado. I think it has probably been around for a little while (I found my copy at a garage sale).
This is a really good book that I could see how it could apply to many people's lives. It is really touching mine at the moment and it is changing my way of thinking about things.
The book is about traveling light. It is about putting down all of the mental baggage that we carry such as: Anxiety, Tension, Guilt, Anger, Fear, Worry, Discontent, Weariness and the list goes on.
Basically the book is about releasing the burdens that God never intended for us to bear. The book goes verse by verse through the 23rd Psalm and shows us through the 23rd Psalm what God wants us to do.
I have read and reread certain chapters that have really spoken to me and I just really had to share this because it has been an excellent book to read.
I believe that also the book is setup so that you can do a Bible study along with it. But I want to read it first and then I will go back and do the Bible study with it because I would love to read it again. CHICK FLICK REVIEW-THE HOLIDAYSome friends of mine and I went to see "The Holiday" this weekend. "The Holiday" stars: Cameron Diaz, Kate Winslet, Jude Law and Jack Black.
The movie is about two women who are having guy troubles one lives in L.A. and one lives in England. They meet on the internet and decide to switch houses for two weeks over the Christmas Holiday.
It was an extremely cute movie. It is rated PG-13 and I am guessing it's because they show Cameron Diaz in her bra and then they show her bra and there are some references to sex and there are a few kissing scenes but they don't show anymore than what I just mentioned.
Me and my friends laughed and we cried (we laughed more than anything). It was a really good one to go and see especially with your girlfriends!!!
I recommend seeing this movie and I will probably buy this one when it comes out on DVD because I want to watch it again.
January 21 NO SNOW!!!!I wish we would have gotten snow instead of this blasted rain!!!!!!!!!! My husband is a landscaper and he has missed so much work since early fall due to all of the rain we have had. When I watched the forecast last night it looked like we had a really good chance of anywhere between 1-6 inches. You never know in my neck of the woods. But all we got was rain, again! My hubby removes snow and has a big truck and plow and everything and could have made some really great money. Oh-well.
I am getting ready to go to church(and pray for snow, ha, ha) no really I am getting ready for church and then I am going to come home today and make homeade chicken and noodles (I love to make homeade noodles), a huge pot of chili, and meatloaf. I have really gotten into this habit of making 2-3 big meals on Sunday and then I don't cook dinner for about 3 nights after that. So it makes it really nice for me. Especially with tax season here. (I worked all day yesterday.)
Then I am going to a movie at 3:50 with some of my friends from my knitting group. I haven't done anything like that in the longest time. So I am really looking forward to it.
One of the ladies in the knitting group is going to find me a summer sweater pattern for my brown tweed Alpaca yarn I posted about earlier. She works at our local yarn shop that our knitting group is based out of. So I will keep you up to date on what I get started on. I am pretty excited about the thought of doing a summer short sleeved sweater for myself. (It will probably take me the rest of the winter to actually do it considering the only sweaters I have ever made have been baby sweaters).
But other than that, there's not too much excitement going on here. Which is probably a good thing. My daughter Cindy has a cold and hopefully that's all it is (that is how my bronchitis started).
So-I am off to church in the rain this morning. I hope that everyone out there in blogland has a great Sunday and a great start to your week. I will post more later.
Cara January 15 Cool knitting websiteOkay this one is for the knitters:
This website will actually generate a sweater pattern for you based on the type of yarn you are using, size of needles, chest measurement or size.
It's actually a really cool website and I wanted to share it with you knitters!!! Penne RosaPenne Rosa
3 cups penne pasta, uncooked 1 finely chopped green/red pepper 1package cream cheese, cubed 1 cup tomato juice 3 green onions, chopped 2 teaspoons basil 2 cloves garlic, minced 2 tomatoes, diced 2 cups cooked chicken, cubed
This recipe is a keeper. It's so simple to cook and tastes awesome and it's quick! For the Italian dinner when I prepared it, I actually grilled the chicken ahead of time but I think that this would be a great thing to do if you had left over chicken as well! Rain, rain, rain, rain, rainThat's all it's been doing!!!!!! It is so depressing we just can't take it anymore. It has rained for the last 5 days! And we have more than a 60 percent chance for rain up until Sunday. I can't remember the last time we saw the sun.
Thanks for all of your comments.
I worked on Saturday and then got to babysit my nephew Aidan on Sunday after church until 5:00. He is such a good baby! He is 6 months old and he is as big as my 1 year old niece. He's huge! He was as good as gold. I think he only barely fussed one time when he was hungry and then he barely fussed once when he was tired. Other than that I think he really enjoyed the commotion of being at our house and I know he loved growling at everyone.
I think I am going to post an easy recipe from my Italian dinner the other night. It's called Penne Rosa. It was definitely and easy one and actually one of the favorites.
January 12 HelloHello-so sorry for the long time in between posts. We have been having computer problems at home so I have not had the chance to post and also we have been taking some shorter lunches due to tax season. But the good news is that I do feel 100 percent better. I think I felt bad from Dec. 26 to Jan. 5. And then after Jan. 5 my neck hurt really bad. I don't know if it was part of the virus that my neck hurt so bad or if it was because I coughed so much that I pulled some muscles in my neck. But I couldn't turn my head at all!!! The reason I say this is because I have talked to more and more people that after they were sick their necks hurt. Really weird! It's either part of a virus or a HUGE COINCIDENCE!!!
Anyway-right now I am completely and totally bored with my knitting. I have been working on a sweater for my nephew Aidan since before Christmas (I have put it down several times) and all I need to do is finish up the sleeves but my desire to do it has really not been there.
It is really weird for me because I don't think that I have ever been this way about my knitting.
I do have some black and brown tweed alpaca yarn that I am wanting to make something with but I haven't been able to comeup with anything good. I am thinking of taking the yarn with me to the knitting group that I go to on Tuesday nights to see if the ladies there can help me come up with fun and exciting to do with it.
Last weekend I made a really big Italian Dinner and invited two couples over. It was really a nice time. I think that I outdid myself this time(I say this as I am patting myself on the back ha, ha).
I made my own Italian sausage and with that Italian sausage I made, Italian Meataballs, a Pasta Pie, then I made Penne Rosa, Fettucini Alfredo, Bruchetta on bread, Anit-pasto, and I had some bread that I just put in the oven and had everyone tear their own pieces to dip in olive oil and herbs like you do at the Italian restaurant. And of course we had wine with dinner. We had a very dry white wine and a very dry red wine.
It was a really nice time and considering we really haven't been doing too much lately it gave me something fun to do and fun to look forward to.
Well-I really wanted to put a post on here really quick while I had the time. I am going to go ahead and go. But I appreciate your concern and I am back on my feet!!!! January 01 BRONCHITISOkay-I didn't post on here earlier that I am currently sick with bronchitis. I went to the doctor on Saturday since I have been sick all week and been feeling progressively worse each day and he told me that I have bronchitis. So yes I have been in bed sleeping a lot but that's the problem. Whenever I lay in bed too long then the coughing starts and nothing will stop it. He even gave me a prescription for something but I am still coughing. So that's why I am up right now instead of sleeping. I wish I were sleeping but what do you do.
I think that this is the first New Year's my husband, son and I have spent in bed watching TV. Usually we always have friends over and have a great time. So I spent from 11:30-12:00 trying to keep the two boys awake so we could see the ball drop on TV.
I did have fun calling my friend in California though. I called her from the future. My son didn't understand how it could be 2007 here and 2006 in California. He got a chuckle out of that.
Well-I hope that everyone here in blogland have a safe and Happy New Year.
Happy 2007!!!
I'm going to try to go and lay back down.
